Music Healing


Music seems to have a positive effect on our moods and health in much the same way color does. Soft music, when combined with some relaxation techniques, has been used to lessen stress and relax muscles. Music touches the spirit and can be very relaxing and healing. Researchers suggest that music increases the production of pain-killing hormones called endorphins in the brain. It creates the relaxation response. Music healing has produced some good results in those undergoing alcohol and drug rehabilitation. It’s been proven beneficial to those suffering from depression, high blood pressure, migraines, and ulcers. Although soft music can be soothing, certain types of hard rock music can have the opposite effect.

10 Ways To Stay Young


1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why we pay them.

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down. Ditch them today.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop."

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next country - to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity. Do it early and often.

KIDS AND CHIROPRACTIC


Good health begins at birth. Keep your kids well from birth! Do you take your child to get a dental check-up, how about an eye, ear or throat exam? Most parents take their children to the doctor so that they make sure their child is the healthiest they could possibly be. Did you know that current research shows the initiation of heart disease (atherosclerosis) occurs in infants and children?

However, we don’t often encounter a child with chest pain or other symptoms indicating they may have heart disease. Like the lack of chest pain, children do not always complain of back pain. However, spinal problems have been shown consistently to begin after birth. This is why a spinal check-up is critical at the earliest of ages as well as throughout adolescence and into adulthood.

According to Dr. Gutman, a German medical specialist, a chiropractic spinal checkup “… should be obligatory after every difficult birth.” He noted that out of a random group of 1,250 babies examined 5 days after birth, 211 suffered from vomiting, hyperactivity and sleeplessness – spinal abnormalities were found in 95% of this group.

Gutman and colleagues found that an unhealthy spine causes “many clinical features from central motor impairment to lower resistance to infections – especially ear, nose and throat infections.”

Are You Off Balance?

Every living organism in our world possesses what chiropractors call Innate Intelligence. However, unless your spinal vertebrae are correctly aligned, those instructions can’t be received and followed properly. The result is “Dis-ease” and dysfunction.

Multi-Vitamins cut sick days by more than half!


A daily Multi-Vitamin/Mineral combination (MVM) may reduce the risk of infectious illness in healthy individuals, according to researchers at the University of North Carolina, and Wake Forest University.
Healthy participants taking the daily MVM reported fewer infections and days absent from work than those the placebo. Infection rates were 42% for the MVM group versus 73% in the placebo group. Work- absence rates were 21% in the MVM group and 57% in the placebo group.

Diabetics taking the MVM reported more dramatic results, with only a 17% infection rate compared with 93% in the diabetic placebo group. Illnesses included influenza, gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urinary tract infections.

HIGH CHOLESTEROL DIETARY RECOMMENDATIONS


Research suggests that water-soluble dietary fiber is very important in reducing serum cholesterol. It is found in barley, beans, brown rice, fruits, glucomannan, guar gum, and oats. Oat bran and brown rice bran are the best foods for lowering cholesterol. Since fiber absorbs the minerals from the food it is in, take extra minerals separate from the fiber.

Meat and dairy products are the primary offenders because they contain high levels of cholesterol. Coffee, stress, and sustained tension also raise the serum cholesterol. Alcohol, steroids, oral contraceptives, Lasix and other diuretics, and L-Dopa (prescribed for Parkinson’s disease) are a few of the many drugs that elevate blood cholesterol.

No salt, heated fats or supermarket oils should be eaten. Reduce eating red meat, animal products, non dairy creamers, processed or refined foods, white bread, coffee, tea, alcohol, or tobacco. Reduce the amount of fats in your diet, making sure to take in plenty of fiber in the form of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. A good all-around exercise program is important!

Studies reveal that Third World diets, which consist of grains, fruits, and vegetables, yield lower blood cholesterol. In the United States, Finland, and Norway, where people indulge heavily in dairy products and meat, extremely high rates of heart and circulatory disease are present. Even the children in these nations show progressive vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia (an excess of cholesterol in the blood).

Cream substitutes (nondairy cream), unfortunately, are poor alternatives to cholesterol-heavy dairy products. Many contain coconut oil, which is a highly saturated fat. Soy or almond milk is preferred.

Pure virgin olive oil helps reduce serum cholesterol.

    Scoliosis Part II


    Scoliosis treatment has changed through out the years. Full body casts with steel rods were inserted into the spine. Electric muscle stimulation was also used. The latest research shows that the problems from scoliosis are related to nerve interference.

    Scoliosis Part I

    During the early school years, most children are given a scoliosis exam.  The doctor or nurse conducting the exam is checking to make sure the spine is within normal range.  Scoliosis is an excessive twisting or bending of the spine.  

    The cause of scoliosis is pretty much a mystery.  A small portion of about 10% can be connected to tumors, disc problems, infections, and birth deformity. 

    Scoliosis is not a terminal condition.  Most people live normal lives, and some don’t even know they have scoliosis.  In a few cases when the spine is twisted or bent 30°-40° there is a possibility of acquiring complications to the heart and lungs.  This is brought on by an interference between the spinal cord and the targeted organ.

    What is Plantar Fasciitis? Part II

    As earlier discussed, improper foot movement can cause plantar fasciitis. If the foot flattens too much at the arch, the tissue may overstretch. In return, if the foot flattens too little, the fascia is too tight and causes pain.

    A heel spur can also cause plantar fasciitis. This bone growth can be caused by a pull on the heel bone over time.

    Symptoms of plantar fasciitis occur on the bottom of the foot, usually in the morning. Pain may decrease after walking briefly, but comes back with rest or over activity.

    Spinal Stenosis and Spinal Decompression

    How Spinal Decompression Works Part II


    Spinal decompression can trick the body into relaxing. Regular pulling of the spine can trigger sensors in the muscles, and cause them to tighten up.     How Spinal Decompression Works Part I


    An increase in disc pressure causes the disc to bulge, and causes a lot of pain. Spinal decompression creates a negative pressure within the spinal disc that produces a vacuum. This vacuum helps pull nutrients and fluids into the disc region. This in turn helps facilitate the healing process, and helps retract the disc into a more proper position. This improved position is very beneficial for disc health.

    Back Pain and Sciatica

    Sciatica is a feeling of pain, numbness, or tingling into the buttocks and thighs. The cause of this nerve disorder is due to the pinching of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the human body.

    Major causes of sciatica are: herniated discs, bulging discs, degenerative discs and bones out of place in the spine. Sciatica can also be caused by tumors, arthritis, muscle spasms, and pregnancy. Sciatica responds well to chiropractic adjustments, and spinal decompression.
