Dr. Moulas on Chiropractic Misconceptions Part I

Doctors of Chiropractic make up the second largest health care profession in the United States. They have the title of “doctor” along with medical doctors and dentists.

The educational background for chiropractors is similar to that of an M.D. Chiropractors have pre-chiropractic studies at colleges before being admitted into Chiropractic College. In chiropractic college, the length of study is 5 years, which is concluded with a clinical internship.

Chiropractors must pass state and national board examinations, where they earn the title “Doctor of Chiropractic.”

Scoliosis Part I

During the early school years, most children are given a scoliosis exam.  The doctor or nurse conducting the exam is checking to make sure the spine is within normal range.  Scoliosis is an excessive twisting or bending of the spine.

The cause of scoliosis is pretty much a mystery.  A small portion of about 10% can be connected to tumors, disc problems, infections, and birth deformity.

Scoliosis is not a terminal condition.  Most people live normal lives, and some don’t even know they have scoliosis.  In a few cases when the spine is twisted or bent 30°-40° there is a possibility of acquiring complications to the heart and lungs.  This is brought on by an interference between the spinal cord and the targeted organ.

Dr. Moulas on Building Strong Bones Part I

More and more doctors today are recommending that their patients take calcium to protect them from osteoporosis. Osteoporosis, is a condition of accelerated loss of bone, is a major health problem in the United States and is responsible for well over one million fractures a year. More woman die from the complications of these fractures annually than from the combined deaths resulting from cancers of the cervix and breast. Furthermore, the gradual loss of bone may result in disfigurement, wrinkles, decreased mobility and/or calcium deposits in soft tissue (joints, kidney, arteries, etc.) leading to further complications.

Many have assumed that simply increasing dietary calcium or taking a calcium supplement will prevent bone loss. But this is not the case! Bone loss can be caused by many things, including deficiencies of other nutrients besides calcium. Nutrients like magnesium, silica, phosphorus, zinc, copper, and fluoride, to just name a few.
