SHARK SAFETY MEASURES

1. Face outwards and keep a lookout for sharks.

2. If you are in a group in the water, bunch together and form a tight circle for added protection.

3. Stay as quiet as possible and float to save energy.

4. Ward off an attack by kicking or stiff-arming a shark. Only use your hands as a last resort. Use a hard object, and aim for the snout, gills or eyes.

5. Do not swim directly away from a shark; rather, face it and swim to one side.

6. If you have to swim, use strong regular strokes, not frantic irregular movements (these will make sharks believe you are a wounded fish).
